Who’s the second commander after Pique? Barcelona makes surprise decision on the badge

Spanish press reports confirmed that Gerard Pique’s retirement would lead to a change in the player who would hold the team’s captaincy, knowing that Pique was the second team leader after Sergio Busquets, as well as Sergi Roberto and Jordi Alba.

Xavi decided not to select the Catalan team’s new captain until after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, bearing in mind that Barcelona will have at least 18 World Cup internationals, and the coaching staff will wait for all players to return to decide who will take over from Pique as the second captain.

According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the team’s new leader is also chosen by vote, and the person who wins many numbers will be the second leader, and the name of German guard Mark Ter Stegen is expected to emerge.

Ter Stegen has been playing in the Barcelona shirt since 2014 and has so far served as captain through his impressive performance rather than captaincy, and the German star will be a very good candidate by most of his teammates.

Given next season, a more than real option is the absence of any of the three current leaders, with Sergio Busquets and Sergi Roberto ending their contracts and the club not planning to renew them, while Jordi Alba, whose contract expires in 2024, was invited to leave last summer and expected to be out soon.
